Random Pictures from this past week.

On safari again this past weekend. This is overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater is the remains of a volcanic explosion some 3 million years ago (prior to the explosion this mountain stood taller than Kili... how scientists can figure this out is beyond me). The crater is 304 square km. On this day we saw lions, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, a cheetah, elephants, hyenas, and many birds.

Back visiting my friends in Mto Wa Mbu, one of my favorite villages.

We were playing a game where he kept hiding from me behind the door of his house and I somehow captured this picture.

My friends and local wood carvers in Mtu Wa Mbo. They are all members of the Makunde tribe and they have passed the wood carving tradition down through generations. He is holding a piece of ebony which he intends to use for a present he wants to carve for me... so cool.

Visiting the Tunahaki Foundation. My friend Dorrie, back in San Fransisco, worked with the director David and the orphan children here. They teach acrobatics to the children and they perform locally and beyond... some even traveled and performed in San Francisco! It was wonderful to meet David and see the space after hearing so much about the organization from Dorrie.

Ana and Faraha, my sweet friends at Mama Marandu's Daycare where we volunteer.

Baraka, Eli, Fina, Ana, and Brighton rocking paper crowns and playing bus.
Baraka is the driver...

  1. Kate, these pictures and your account of this experience could be a valuable teaching program that you could put together. You could give presentations to students and to teacher groups and other organizations. Sharing this experience would add to the overall experience and maybe you could pick some extra $, that never hurts.
    Love ya, DAD
