Bush Camp: Part 3

This was my last day in the bush. We drove 2 hours through Tarangire National Park, the area through which I took my first game drive a couple weeks back, to get to this location. We found out some unfortunate news... since the last time I was in Tarangire there have been 11 elephants killed by Kenyan poachers crossing the border illegally. Very sad and again eye-opening that this too is still happening. My guide assured me that they would be caught and charged but it was disappointing to hear that this is still going on.

On a brighter note... look at this ridiculous room... you call this bush camp... I'm in! This was a nice upgrade for our last night - a high class resort nestled in the middle of nowhere! I had my own cabin again and got the best night's sleep I have had since I've been here. The cabin is elevated and from my bed all I could see was trees and the horizon.... aaaah one night of pure relaxation.

Of course, don't think I didn't work for it! Here I am earlier in the day making recycled paper out of elephant dung and toilet paper. That's right... poop paper... And yes I'm touching it with my bare hands... This was clearly programming to keep the rich tourists occupied and able to return home with 'crazy' stories from the bush. We very much enjoyed our stay but thought it to be a bit artificial and sanitized compared to the rest of our week.

Check out the view from my porch as the sunset... no complaints here.

My last night before returning home to Rau. As the sun set it left behind this gorgeous pink sky. Later that night as I was escorted home by a guard (a local Maasai working here) I asked him what his rifle was for....'The leopards' he replied quite seriously.... 'There are many and they are very dangerous.' As we continued along I prayed that he was a good shot and was reminded again that... This is Africa.

The pictures and your description of the bush are fantastic. Can't wait to hear in more detail the stuff you don't have time or space to include in the blog.
    Love ya,
