Himo School: One of our volunteer sites.

A group picture of our volunteers at Himo School with some of the students. Our high school volunteers are working with kids in Standard 4 (around age 8) and Standard 7 (around age 13 or 14). They teach basic English for the younger groups and more advanced conversation skills and grammar for the older. We have also begun math tutoring with selected students as well!

Inside one of the classrooms with the school chairperson and some of the teachers standing in the background. Everyday when we pull up in our van the kids come running at us from all directions shouting "Teacha! Teacha! Goodmorning Teacha!" It's an amazing way to start the day.

Here is a picture of me with some of my friends!
One of my favorite teachers at the school teaches in the classroom behind us. His name is Jacob and he is in his 60's and the kids in his class have extremely advanced English skills. Our volunteers weren't sure if there was anything they could teach them. He is quite an amazing man and he had one request for me... could I find him another copy of a beginner's dictionary he has used in his classroom and has found very helpful and possibly send it to him from America.
So many people here asking us for money... and that was his one simple request...

I love this picture! I took out my camera and the kids came running at me. They LOVE the camera!!! But really for me this picture just shows how joyful the children here are... these kids are so poor, they live in conditions that many would consider uninhabitable... and yet look at those smiles... they just have love and happiness to share. All the money in the world can't buy a pure heart. I believe we have lots to learn.

  1. I love the last picture... How amazing and joyous a trip. Just make sure you don't teach them anything akin to LOL or BRB...

    But love this journey
